Are you a therapist, social worker or student who works with farmers, their families or others in the agricultural community?

If so, you know over half of Canada’s farmers report they suffer from anxiety—that’s almost 10 times higher than Canada’s labour market. Twenty-five percent of farmers reported experiencing suicidal thoughts in the past year.

We’ve developed the Agriculture Informed Therapy (AIT) training program to introduce the unique needs of farmers to therapists and students who may work with them in their practice. This unique, nationally recognized, online course is intended to teach therapists how to effectively build and maintain a therapeutic alliance.

Our goal is to create a network of therapists, each trained to recognize the unique issues facing the agricultural industry, to develop effective mental health strategies that meet the specific needs of farmers and their families. Established cultural competency is imperative in ensuring farmers and their families receive appropriate services when they are sought out.

Our courses are nationally recognized and qualify as fulfilling required professional development hours.

Cultivating gratitude is a powerful practice that can transform our mindset! Taking time each day to reflect on what we’re thankful for—big or small—helps us appreciate life’s blessings and navigate challenges with a positive outlook. Here are five tips for cultivating gratitude:Daily Reflection: Set aside time each day to reflect on the positive aspects of your work. Consider keeping a gratitude journal where you jot down three things you’re thankful for, whether it’s a good weather day or the support of friends and family.Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate small achievements, like a successful planting or a healthy animal. Recognizing these milestones can help shift your focus from challenges to the positive outcomes of your hard work.Appreciate Nature: Spend time in your fields or with your livestock and take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you. Notice the changing seasons, the growth of your crops, and the well-being of your animals to foster a deeper connection to your land.Gratitude in Community: Engage with fellow farmers and ranchers to share experiences and express gratitude for each other’s support. Building relationships within your community can enhance your sense of belonging and appreciation for shared challenges.Volunteer or Give Back: Find ways to contribute to your community, whether through mentoring new farmers, participating in local events, or donating produce. Giving back can deepen your sense of gratitude and connection to the agricultural community.#cultivatinggratitude #gratitude #thanksgiving #givethanks #nfmha #nfmhalliance#farmersupportfarmers #farmstrong #farmermentalhealth #farmerwellness #agmentalhealth #farmfamily #agmorethanever #ruralrooted #ruralwellbeing #therapistsofinstagram #psychotherapistsofinstagram #socialworkersofinstagram #supportoneanother ...
